Dear South Arapahoe Sanitation District Customer,

We are writing to you because you are a customer of South Arapahoe Sanitation District (SASD), and because your sanitary sewer contributes flow to a sanitary sewer lift station, owned and maintained by SASD.

Sewage in sanitary sewer lines normally flows by gravity to a wastewater treatment facility. However, when gravity flow is not possible, a sewage lift station is required. A sewage lift station collects sewage, and then pumps it to a manhole, where it is able to flow by gravity to the treatment plant.

SASD has a sewage lift station that collects sewage flow from 385 single family residences, two restaurants, one elementary school, one church, two daycares, and several commercial customers. Lately, there has been an excessive amount of grease and heavy-duty paper towels or “wet wipes” found in the lift station. This material affects the operation of the station and this could, ultimately, cause a sanitary sewer backup into homes.

SASD has a proactive maintenance program, which includes scheduled cleaning of the lift station. However, an increase in grease and towels has caused the District to have the station cleaned more frequently than in the past. The cost for this cleaning must be passed on to District customers.

What You Can Do

In order to keep grease and towels/wet wipes out of the lift station, keep maintenance costs down and to help avoid a backup in the District’s sewer system, we are asking for your help in the following ways:

On this flyer is a map showing the properties that contribute sewage to SASD’s lift station, along with the District’s contact information should you have any questions or concerns.
